Trading System
The Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange Limited (TTSE) facilitates the trading of listed securities (equities, bonds, mutual funds and US Denominated securities) via an automated and secured trading platform. The Exchange implemented a new trading and surveillance platform, Aveento, on February 06th, 2017 replacing the GlobalVision Electronic Trading System which was used by the Exchange since June 06th, 2011. This new system brings greater efficiency and transparency to the market and allows for the continuous execution of trades across a wider range of securities. It also allows brokers to enter orders and execute trades from their offices or remotely, eliminating the need for a trading floor.
The trading days for the Exchange are Monday to Friday, excluding Public Holidays and Carnival Monday and Carnival Tuesday. Each trading day has three markets as follows:
- 1. Pre-Open State: 8:00 am – 9:30 am – Orders can be entered and will be queued until Open. Matching of orders not allowed.
- 2. Open: 9.30 am – 12:00 noon – Orders can be entered. Matching of orders are allowed.
- 3. Close: 12:00 noon - 8:00 am – Trading is not allowed.
Orders entered in Aveento are queued in the market and matched based on the following criteria:
- Best Price
- Earliest Timestamp
Time stamp is used as the final deciding factor as the time stamp is always a unique value (i.e. two orders can never have the same time stamp).
In order to ensure transparency in the market, members of the public can visit the Exchange on any trading day to view the trading activity.
